L’inquietante primum italiano del macrotoponimo America

Published 2019-11-20

Abstract

The macrotoponym ‘America’ is found in the very first European copies of a codex containing the Esposizione del Pater noster by Antonio De Ferrariis Galateo (1448-1517), a foremost figure among sixteenth-century humanists. The Esposizione is written in a Southern version of the vernacular. Behind an apparently religious title, the Esposizione presents a compelling depiction the crisis afflicting Naples under the Aragon rule, as well as those of early sixteenth-century Italy.
