Il doppio, il duplice, il molteplice e il proteiforme: «la petite faiblesse» dell’abate de Choisy

Abstract

The Abbot de Choisy’s passion for dressing in women’s clothes, his «petite faiblesse», led this original man with questionable morals to take different personalities and names. His perversion, however, also resulted in the disguise of his young victims, who were often obliged to take male clothes and names, or clothes and names that turned them into characters belonging to a different social class. The onomastic dimension, therefore, played an important role in the perverse game of the Abbot de Choisy’s multiple duplications.
