“I nomi di quegli dei dimenticati”. Appunti onomastici su La Sirena di Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa

Abstract

The novel La Sirena, by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, offers many reflections about the analysis of names, not only in relation to the name of the mysterious female creature who is the protagonist, Ligea, (also the title of the first edition), but especially as far as to the two male protagonists, Rosario La Ciura and Paolo Corbera are concerned. Their names open the way to possible new links with the major work of Tomasi, Il Gattopardo, and with his own biography. The names are intertwined with readings, family, places, ideas of the author, and they shed light on a cultural and existential vision of the world that isn’t opposed but complementary to that of the Prince of Salina.
