Onomastica tragica.La riflessione sui nomi in tragedia nel dibattito cinquecentesco

Abstract

In the late Renaissance literary theory, perhaps for the first time in the history of modern poetry, a specific attention to literary names can be identified. We follow the development of the debated problem about the use of real or fictitious names in ‘Tragedy’, which is analysed within the commentaries on Aristotle’s Poetics by Robortello and Maggi and the theoretical writings of Giraldi Cinzio.
