Abstract
Der fliegende Holländer can full register, for the nomination that is attributed, in foreign and strange rank. His profile is due to a type that plays, in the German opera of the nineteenth century, a role of disconcerting ambiguity. The theme of damnation, connected to the denial of identity, starting with the name, a simple geographical designation, becomes the symbol of an existential experience that infringes the prohibition of God, under the sign of an inaccessible landing place and of a peace can only be found in death.
