Abstract
The Italian film comedy of the Fifties, usually not appreciated by critics and known with the derogatory expression neorealismo rosa (‘pink neorealism’), is worth investigating for its use of personal onomastics. Seemingly first names and family names offer a fair view of the Italian situation of that period, with plausible and realistic options (high frequency of that historical period’s typical first names such as Giuseppe or Marisa, large use of nicknames, etc.) – non realistic and grotesque names are usually avoided, contrary to what is common in the films of the comic genre.
