Abstract
The onomastic system created by Marinetti for his first novel Mafarka the futurist still results difficult to frame nowadays. The African setting and the use of an Arabian lexicon could bring to the wrong conclusion of an exclusive Arabic genesis. But a deeper reading often highlights an ambiguous etymology as a consequence of lexicon hybridizations between recognizable names (from French) and some others which remain doubtful. The whole work make the novel onomastic substratum really enigmatic: a mystery that increases the fascination of its symbolism.
