Abstract

This paper examines the use of proper names and place names in d’Annunzio’s tragedy La Nave, and highlights the poet’s meticulous historical research on the names of a number of powerful Venetian families. It also looks at the literary sources, mainly Dante’s Divine Comedy, along with the original component in the final choices.
