Dylan’s various stage names – Bob Dylan, Jack Frost, Jack Fate – all have a precise meaning, and, insofar as allegorical names, convey information (name of the performer, the producer, and the actor) concerning the respective artistic concepts. As names of a fictional being (‘STAR ’), they generally reflect the artist’s changing attitudes to the fictional as such. They are therefore an important key to his work.
