Abstract

Abstract: My paper’s aim is to describe a phenomenon of the first half of the 14th century: the hidden quotations within the lyrics of the court music songs. They were unperceivable and could be decoded only by a circle of cultured people aware of them. For many centuries these allusions were unknown and only beginning with the 20th century Musicologists began to reconsider these lyrics under the new perspective of the hidden quotations, discovering new information. The life of Luchino Visconti, for instance, can be reconstructed thanks to the allusions within the madrigals written for him by Jacopo da Bologna.
