Abstract
Most of the names that occur in the novel Dafni e Cloe of Longus are talking names. Of the twenty-five persons mentioned, six are already present in the songbook of Teocritus and they belong to the bucolic tradition. Another group of names refers to elements of the vegetation and for the most part pertains to the bu- colic environment. The intricate stories of the protagonists and characters are linked to their names, and in them are reflected: omen in nomen.
